The Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria’s security agencies for the successful rescue of the abducted students and a teacher from Oyo/Orire, describing the operation as proof of effective leadership and coordinated security efforts.

The group said the rescue demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and restoring public confidence in the nation’s security architecture.

In a statement issued on Monday, the National Coordinator of GMI, Samaila Musa, praised President Tinubu for providing the strategic leadership that enabled security agencies to carry out the operation successfully.

He also applauded the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, for their leadership and oversight throughout the rescue mission.

Musa paid tribute to the joint security personnel involved in the operation, saying they displayed courage, professionalism and sacrifice in ensuring that the victims were rescued alive and unharmed.

“We salute the gallant joint officers drawn from various security units who meticulously planned, strategised and put their lives on the line to ensure these citizens were brought home alive and unharmed,” he said.

The group cautioned against politicising security operations, insisting that intelligence gathering and rescue missions require confidentiality rather than public pressure.

According to Musa, demanding constant operational updates through the media or social media could jeopardise ongoing security operations and endanger both hostages and security personnel.

“Security is not a social media show. Effective governance and complex security intelligence are not conducted on the pages of newspapers or via social media trends,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to place compassion above partisan interests whenever lives were at risk, stressing that the country’s security challenges required national unity and collective support.

Musa also challenged politicians, commentators and activists who criticised the Federal Government during the abduction to publicly acknowledge the administration’s success following the rescue.

“In the spirit of true patriotism, criticism must be balanced with objective praise when the government delivers on its primary duty of protecting lives,” he said.

He noted that although Nigeria had battled banditry and terrorism for nearly two decades, the successful rescue had renewed public confidence in the government’s determination to dismantle criminal networks.

The GMI reaffirmed its support for the Federal Government and the armed forces in their efforts to improve security across the country.

The group also congratulated the rescued students, their principal, teacher and families, while praying for their speedy rehabilitation and return to normal life.
