The Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN) has honoured Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, with the Peace Champion of Unity in Diversity Award for promoting inclusive governance and ethnic harmony in the state.
The award was presented on Sunday at Arewa House, Kaduna, during an event themed “Act Now for a Peaceful World,” organised to mark the 2025 International Peace Day by GPFN in collaboration with the Church & Society and Women & Girls Health Empowerment Network.
GPFN Country Director, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, said Governor Sani’s policies had “calmed tensions and restored trust” across Kaduna, crediting his administration with reducing insecurity through dialogue and reconciliation.
“Since March 2023, we have witnessed a remarkable transformation in our dear state under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani,” Hayab said.
“At a time when our communities were faced with ethnic feuds, kidnapping, banditry, and heightened tension, His Excellency embraced the path of inclusive governance and dialogue, creating an atmosphere of trust and reconciliation.”
Receiving the award on behalf of the governor, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Suleiman Shuaibu, said peace remained a practical necessity for development and human dignity.
“Here in Kaduna, we have confronted many challenges arising from diversity and the scars of past conflicts. But rather than allow these challenges to divide us, we have chosen dialogue over division and reconciliation over recrimination. This is the spirit that birthed the Kaduna Peace Model,” he said.
Guest speaker, Dr. Mahi Peterx, urged Nigerians to embrace peace daily, stressing that “peace is not just the absence of war but the presence of inclusion, fairness and justice.”
ELANZA NEWS reports that International Peace Day is celebrated annually on September 21 to promote harmony and non-violent conflict resolution across the world.
End.
