Just days after taking office as the new General Officer Commanding of the 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna visited Tidibale, a village recently threatened by the notorious terrorist leader, Bello Turji.

The GOC conducted this assessment visit as part of his initial official duties, assuring the frightened residents of Tidibale in the Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, as well as the entire region under his command, of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to ensuring their safety and security.

Addressing the community, General Koughna emphasised that his visit was part of an initial evaluation following the safe return of Tidibale’s residents, who had previously faced threats from bandits. He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s dedication to protecting communities and restoring normalcy, enabling residents to resume their daily activities, particularly farming, without fear.

In a statement, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, quoted the GOC as highlighting that troops are now stationed in Tidibale to maintain a strong security presence and remain vigilant, ready to respond quickly to any threats or emergencies.

While assuring that no part of the community would fall under the control of bandit groups, the new GOC, General Koughna, further urged residents to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activities to the security forces. He added that by working together, they could collectively strengthen peace and security in their communities.

In response, the Sarkin Arewa of Tidibale, Alhaji Ibrahim, expressed deep gratitude to the GOC for his timely visit, particularly in light of the ongoing security challenges.

“The visit has renewed our hope, and we sincerely appreciate the Nigerian Army’s efforts to secure the community and help us return to our daily lives. We are confident in the GOC’s commitment to bringing lasting peace and stability to the region,” Alhaji Ibrahim remarked.

Earlier, upon his arrival at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Isa, the GOC received a detailed operational briefing from the Commanding Officer of the 26 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Nasiru Mustapha. This briefing provided crucial insights into the current security situation and ongoing operations in the area.

The Nigerian Army has consistently assured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property, while also calling for honest collaboration with local communities to achieve enduring peace and security in the North West region.
