Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed his commitment to making all necessary sacrifices to ensure the successful execution of the local government council election scheduled for Saturday.

In a statement to reporters in Port Harcourt on Friday, Governor Fubara highlighted that the upcoming election is being conducted in accordance with a ruling from the Supreme Court. He asserted that no court has the authority to undermine the decisions of the nation’s highest judicial body, emphasizing that compliance is the only option.

The governor underscored the critical role of law enforcement agencies, including the police, in facilitating the electoral process to establish governance at the local level. He noted that other states across the country have adhered to similar judicial rulings, and Rivers State should follow suit.

“Other states are already holding elections in line with the court’s ruling and the agreement we reached with the president,” he stated.

Fubara also reported receiving a security briefing earlier on Friday regarding an incident at the Rivers State Electoral Commission’s office, where police personnel had reportedly invaded the premises. He expressed his astonishment, as he had previously received a communication indicating the withdrawal of police officers from that location.

To address the situation, he personally visited the site, where he encountered a group of aggressive-looking police officers in a truck, along with three empty vans attempting to access the premises.

“This is unacceptable; this is a legitimate process that should be supported by all relevant governmental bodies,” he remarked.

In conclusion, Fubara urged the citizens of Rivers State to remain steadfast and peaceful, encouraging them not to succumb to intimidation during the electoral process.
