Four major court cases challenging the All Progressives Congress governorship candidacy of Senator Solomon Adeola in Ogun State have been withdrawn, clearing a major legal hurdle ahead of the February 2027 election.

The cases, filed by individuals and opposition figures, were voluntarily discontinued in Abuja and Ogun courts, with the withdrawals formally recorded in court on August 24 and September 7, 2026, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by Adeola’s media adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro.

Odunaro described the development as “welcome and unprecedented”, particularly as the governorship campaigns were getting underway.

The statement said the plaintiffs did not give official reasons for withdrawing the suits.

However, sources cited in the statement claimed the litigants had become convinced of the merit of Adeola’s candidacy and were prepared to support his bid in the 2027 poll.

The first case, Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/87/26, was filed by Prof. Awolola Awoniyi under the Freedom of Information Act 2011 against Adeola, the Independent National Electoral Commission, APC, The Guardian Newspapers and the Inspector-General of Police.

The suit was discontinued on August 24, 2026.

The second case, Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26, was instituted by opposition figures, including Arc. Akerele Abiodun John, Boot Party Chairman; Mr Adeyemi Solomon Oluwaseyifunmi, YPP Chairman; Mr Ola Olamide Emmanuel and Mr Ayinde Oluwayemisi Abiola of ADP; and Mr Fesomade Gbadebo of LP.

The remaining two suits, FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026 and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26, were filed by Dr Olufemi Soluade, ADP Chairman; Mr Oluwabukola Soyoye Temitope of LP; Ogunremi Abiodu Oluwaseun and others.

The defendants in the cases included the APC candidate, INEC, The Guardian and the IGP.

According to Odunaro, all three Abuja suits were formally withdrawn in open court on September 7, 2026, after notices of discontinuance were served on the defendants and their lawyers.

“The withdrawal of the cases effectively removes the major legal challenges that trailed Senator Adeola’s emergence as the APC flagbearer for the 2027 Ogun governorship election,” the statement said.

Reacting to the development, Adeola said he was now more determined to concentrate on delivering what he described as the dividends of democracy to the people of Ogun State.

“With this development, we are moving full speed ahead,” the senator said.

“Our campaign will be about development, jobs, infrastructure and better welfare for every Ogun resident.”

The development has also triggered political calculations ahead of the election.

Political analysts said the discontinuation of the suits could point to a possible realignment, with some opposition figures potentially shifting towards the APC candidate.

With the legal challenges withdrawn, attention is expected to shift to campaigns, policy debates and mobilisation of voters across Ogun State ahead of the February 2027 governorship election.
