Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, the erstwhile Governor of Kaduna State, has officially crossed over to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after five months since his defection.

Amidst his tenure as governor from 2012 to 2015 under the PDP banner, Yero faced defeat by Nasir El-Rufai during the 2015 state elections, leading to a notable shift in his political affiliation.

Reflecting on his transition, Yero disclosed, “Following our departure from the PDP, various political entities, including the ruling APC, reached out to us. Engagements ensued promptly post our exit from the former party.”

Consequently, effective 12th February 2024, I, alongside associates, have opted to align with the APC.

Notably, consultations with the state governor preceded our decision, wherein we acknowledged the invitation extended to us,” he articulated, highlighting the deliberative process preceding his pivotal move.

Encouraging his loyalists to follow suit and converge within the ruling party’s folds, Yero emphasised the collective endeavour towards propelling the state and nation towards progress.

In response to Yero’s defection, Ibrahim Wosono, Kaduna State PDP Secretary, expressed a nonchalant stance, affirming that individual transitions do not dictate the party’s trajectory.

Wosono underscored, “Yero’s departure, while anticipated, does not wield influence over our party’s prospects.

Historically, PDP has weathered substantial departures, yet stands resilient.” Citing past instances of high-profile exits, Wosono underscored PDP’s enduring fortitude.

Dispelling concerns regarding the potential impact on PDP’s electoral fortunes, Wosono reinforced the party’s historical endurance amidst political flux, accentuating its enduring strength.
