Prominent Taraba politician and former federal lawmaker representing Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency, Hon. Danjuma Usman Shiddi, popularly known as Danji SS, has formally defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement addressed to his teeming supporters across Southern Taraba, the state at large, and the diaspora, Danji SS explained that his defection was the outcome of careful reflection, extensive consultations with political stakeholders, and a renewed commitment to serve the people with sincerity.

He described the ADC as a credible alternative platform through which his movement will pursue its vision ahead of the 2026/2027 general elections. According to him, the party offers fresh opportunities for building a united, prosperous Taraba, “rescuing the people from the grip of bad governance and failed promises.”

The former lawmaker highlighted his priorities under the ADC, stressing poverty alleviation, grassroots development, youth empowerment, and inclusive governance as the pillars of his political agenda. He assured that the ADC, under his leadership in Taraba, would restore confidence in governance and place people’s welfare above partisan interests.

“Our politics must return to the people,” he declared. “I am convinced that with the ADC, we will make history together. I call on my supporters, sympathizers, and advocates of good governance to join hands in this new direction.”

The defection of Danji SS marks a major realignment in Taraba politics. Political observers believe his entry into the ADC could significantly alter the 2026/2027 political landscape, particularly in Southern Taraba, where he commands a strong grassroots following.

Danji SS, a well-known mobilizer with a reputation for challenging the status quo, had earlier served in the House of Representatives where he sponsored several motions and bills aimed at improving education, infrastructure, and rural development.

His latest political move is expected to draw reactions from both the APC, where he was once a frontline figure, and the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which currently controls the state.
