In a decisive move to enhance safety during the festive season, the Joint Task Force Team of the Federal Capital Territory Administration on City Sanitation has taken action, impounding 19 vehicles operating in illegal motor parks along the Banex Road corridor in Abuja.
The operation, aimed at eliminating the threat posed by “one chance” operators, seeks to ensure smooth traffic flow and safeguard residents during Christmas.
The Head of Operations, Directorate of Road Traffic Services, Deborah Osho, highlighted the significance of the operation in ensuring a secure yuletide celebration.
With a focus on removing illegal motor parks, the initiative aims to redirect citizens to approved taxi ranks, reducing the risk associated with unauthorized boarding along roads.
Osho emphasized that the impoundment is not only about illegal motor parks but also targets challenges like “one chance” occurrences, traffic congestion, and the presence of criminal elements.
By restricting the activities of illegal commercial taxi drivers, particularly along Banex Road, the operation intends to free up traffic corridors and enhance overall city safety.
Dr. Peter Olumuji, Secretary of FCTA Command and Control, underscored the broader impact of the exercise. Beyond tackling “one chance” incidents, the operation seeks to clear motor parks of illicit drug peddlers who exploit unpainted vehicles for criminal activities.
The comprehensive approach aims to create a cleaner, safer Abuja, especially during the festive period.
