In the early hours of Monday, a soldier tragically lost his life at the hands of gunmen presumed to be kidnappers while guarding workers at a construction site in Ogaminana, Kogi State.

A source relayed to Elanzanews that the assailants invaded the site, seizing a Chinese national before making their escape.

Reports indicate that the kidnappers left their vehicle abandoned at the junction of the Radio Kogi Booster station in Otite, only a short distance from the abduction site.

The source further stated that a collaborative effort involving military forces, police, local hunters, and vigilante groups chased the kidnappers, resulting in the release of the hostage.

“The joint task force is currently scouring the nearby areas for the perpetrators,” the source noted.

Despite the soldiers’ courageous attempts to defend against the attackers, they were ultimately overwhelmed. There is an evident need for the authorities to reinforce security in this and other vulnerable locations.

SP William Ovye Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kogi State Command, mentioned he is still awaiting a detailed report from the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area.
