Rumours suggesting that retired General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma has endorsed Chief Bulus Maiyaki for the Taraba South senatorial seat have been firmly denied. Close associates of Chief Maiyaki have described the reports as entirely unfounded, clarifying that while consultations are ongoing concerning a possible senatorial bid, no such endorsement has been made by the respected elder statesman. They further emphasized that the circulation of such claims appears to be a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and create political confusion.
Despite the misinformation, Chief Maiyaki’s political consultations in recent weeks have revealed a groundswell of genuine grassroots support across Taraba South. Community leaders, youth groups, and political stakeholders from various local government areas have expressed readiness to back his candidacy if he decides to enter the race. According to individuals involved in the consultation process, the response has been overwhelmingly positive, indicating a broad base of confidence in his leadership potential.
Chief Maiyaki, who currently serves as Director of Procurement at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), is no stranger to public service. A former Commissioner for Finance in Taraba State, his tenure in both state and federal institutions has been marked by a strong commitment to transparency, infrastructural development, and rural empowerment. Through his role at the REA, Chief Maiyaki has facilitated several electrification projects across Taraba South, extending reliable energy access to communities that had long been underserved. His involvement in expanding solar energy solutions, installing critical power infrastructure, and supporting agricultural productivity through renewable energy sources has drawn commendation from various quarters.
Beyond his official duties, Chief Maiyaki has personally contributed to community development by donating essential infrastructure to remote areas, further reinforcing his reputation as a leader who remains in touch with grassroots realities. His technical expertise and administrative experience, combined with a clear passion for public service, have fueled speculation about his potential to emerge as a strong contender for the senatorial seat in 2027.
Although he has yet to make a formal declaration, political observers suggest that the momentum building around his consultations could position him as a unifying candidate with cross-sectional appeal. For now, Chief Maiyaki continues to engage stakeholders across the district, taking a measured approach to navigating the political terrain. However, should he ultimately decide to enter the race, early signs indicate that he would do so with widespread and credible support throughout Taraba South.
