The Dan Sadau Youth Community Development Association has accused Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal Dare, of neglecting the people of Dan Sadau amid worsening insecurity and alleged mismanagement of the Gusau–Dan Sadau road project.

In a statement on Monday, the group, through its Secretary, Usman Garba Dan Sadau, said the governor had failed to fulfil key campaign promises made to the community nearly three years after assuming office.

The association recalled that Lawal, during his campaign visit to Dan Sadau, promised to end insecurity within two weeks if elected, noting that the situation has instead deteriorated.

“Insecurity has not been reduced; it has intensified. Farmers can no longer access their farmlands, families live in fear, and communities are sliding into poverty and displacement,” the statement read.

A youth leader was quoted as saying, “A promise made in public cannot be abandoned in silence. Our lives are not campaign slogans.”

The group also faulted the handling of the 102-kilometre Gusau–Dan Sadau road, initially announced at a cost of N82bn, lamenting that after nearly two years, less than three kilometres had reportedly been completed.

According to the association, the project was later split into phases, with an additional contract of N100bn awarded, bringing the total cost to over N182bn without visible justification or progress.

A resident said, “If billions are released and roads are not built, then the people have a right to ask where their money has gone.”

The youths further criticised the governor’s recent visit to Dan Sadau, alleging that it was solely to receive a traditional title rather than address insecurity, abandoned projects or engage affected residents.

“Titles do not protect our villages, and ceremonies do not replace governance,” another youth member said.

The association demanded an immediate account of all funds allocated to the road project, an explanation for the cost escalation, and urgent action to tackle insecurity in the area.

“We do not ask for miracles; we ask for honesty, safety and visible work,” the group added, warning that the community would no longer remain silent in the face of neglect.
