As of the time of this report, there has been no official confirmation from either Solomon Arase’s family or the Nigeria Police Force regarding his passing.

Solomon Arase, the former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has died at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja.

Arase served as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police and later held the position of Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC). Prior to his role as IGP, he led the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, which is the police force’s primary intelligence unit.

Born on June 21, 1956, in the Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Arase earned his degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University in 1980 and joined the Nigeria Police Force on December 1, 1981. He later acquired a Law degree from the University of Benin and a Master’s degree from the University of Lagos.

Throughout his distinguished career, Arase held numerous significant roles, including Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State and Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing intelligence operations. He also participated in a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Namibia and was recognized as a Fellow of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Arase retired from the Nigeria Police Force on June 21, 2016, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age. In January 2023, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission by the late President Muhammadu Buhari, but was subsequently removed from office by President Bola Tinubu in June 2024.
