The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have engaged in a war of words over an alleged carting away of Ballot boxes in Brass constituency 2 before the end of voting by unidentified gunmen in the area.
In its accusation, the PDP said that the ballot boxes were carted away to the INEC ward collation centre in Okpoama, where security agencies prevented party Agents of the PDP to gain access to.
This was disclosed by the House of Assembly candidate of the PDP in Brass constituency 2, Austine Adigio, while speaking to Leadership over the phone.
He further called for the cancelation of elections in Ward 4 Okpoama in Brass LGA and the entire 7 polling units in Dieama community Ward 5 in Brass LGA, for alleged carting away of Ballot boxes.
Adigio, however, urged on INEC to take frantic measures to ensure that political parties do not upturn the mandate of the people.
Responding to the allegations, the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva through his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Julius Bokoru, debunked the statement as grossly untrue and puerile, saying that elections in Brass Constituency 2 was fair and credible.
He said, “The electioneering process at Brass Constituency 2 has been stable, safe, free and fair. The people went about freely voting for candidates of their choice according to their conscience and their hearts.
“The state government, instead of remedying its incompetence and lack of acceptance, has unfortunately deployed the tactics it inherited from the former governor, impulsive lying, violence and a steady desire to attract plastic sympathy.
“If there are evidences supporting their adolescent claims, it should be presented to the public and relevant authorities. That is what entities serious about their claims should be doing, not descending into a free fall of lies.”
