Atiku defeated Amaechi by a margin of 1,346,390 votes and led Hayatu-Deen by 1,674,884 votes. Total votes cast stood at 2,546,457, out of a party membership of 3,113,599.

The ADC commenced its presidential primary on Monday, May 25, 2026, with members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory participating. The party adopted the direct primary method after the three leading aspirants rejected appeals to step down for a consensus candidate.

Although party leaders initially considered an affirmation process, the ADC ultimately complied with the Electoral Act 2026 by opting for direct primaries.
