Atiku-Obi Ticket is a Loser, Says Tanko

Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, has dismissed calls for an Atiku-Obi alliance in the 2027 presidential election, insisting the pairing would fail to secure victory for the opposition coalition.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Tanko rejected arguments by ADC chieftain Dele Momodu that an Atiku-Obi ticket offered the opposition its strongest chance. He insisted that a different arrangement was needed, warning that such a combination would struggle at the polls.

Tanko argued that the presidency must be zoned to the South, saying “it is the time for the South” to produce the next president. Ignoring this reality, he added, would weaken the opposition’s chances. He maintained that only a restructured formula – with former Anambra governor Peter Obi at the centre of the ticket – could deliver victory.

According to Tanko, zoning and candidate balance will be decisive in 2027. He reiterated that an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, pairing Obi with former Kano governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, remains the coalition’s most viable option.

“With an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, the election will be over by 12 pm,” he said.
