A Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Edeh Benjamin, has expressed his readiness to move his structure from ADC to the Allied People’s Movement (APM)
The party Chieftain made the declaration on Thursday while fielding questions from journalists in Kaduna, saying that he has also declared his support for the Presidential candidate of the APM, Governor Seyi Makinde in the coming 2027 elections.
According to him, his decision to move from ADC to APM was occasioned by the alleged refusal of the party to upload his name on the INEC list despite an earlier settlement, alleging that his exit will definitely weaken the party, particularly in Cross River North, where ADC has struggled to establish broad acceptance.
Benjamin further explained that the development could also present a major opportunity for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde following his political alignment, adding that new generation of supporters and grassroots actors are already showing interest in Makinde’s aspiration.
He said, “For ADC, the concern is bigger than losing one candidate. It is the possibility of losing the youth narrative and grassroots energy that he was helping to build.”
As political realignments gather momentum, he explained that the question now is whether ADC can rebuild its Cross River structure.
While assuring that his departure would definitely open a door for Makinde to establish a stronger political foothold in the state, he blamed the senior opposition figures within the ADC for failing to give attention to his several complaints, especially at a time when younger voices are becoming increasingly influential.
Benjamin, who had been building a grassroots narrative around youth participation and generational leadership, his movement now raised questions about the party’s ability to maintain its youth appeal and grassroots momentum in the state.
