FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that the revival and completion of capital projects abandoned for decades stand as the defining achievement of his three-year tenure.
Speaking on Saturday after inspecting major infrastructure sites across Abuja, Wike reflected on the progress recorded since assuming office on August 21, 2023. He said his administration’s focus on resuscitating stalled projects, delivering critical infrastructure, and initiating new developments had significantly reshaped the nation’s capital.
“When we came in, many doubted what could be achieved. Today, you can see the results for yourself,” he said.
To document these strides, Wike announced plans by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to publish a comprehensive report detailing all projects inherited, completed, and newly awarded under his leadership.
Despite initial challenges, he maintained that his team had remained steadfast in executing its mandate, with residents bearing witness to tangible improvements across the territory.
“Challenges have come, but we have been able to surmount them. The residents of the FCT can attest that indeed things have changed for the better,” Wike added.
He noted that the administration had prioritised aggressive infrastructure delivery, urban renewal, and the completion of critical projects—some of which had lain dormant since 1999—to alter the narrative surrounding Abuja’s development.
“The track record of what we have accomplished in these three years is there for everyone to see. When you look at the actual records, you will be shocked at how far we have come,” he said.
Expressing pride in his contributions, Wike said: “I am very happy and proud that I have been able to contribute my own quota to the development of the FCT.”
