The Federal Government has set a deadline of July 15, 2025, for the payment of wage award arrears owed to civil servants across various ministries and agencies.

This decision was announced by George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, in a press briefing held on July 11, 2025.

Akume expressed the government’s dissatisfaction with the delay in payment and confirmed that the necessary funds have been approved for disbursement.

The wage award arrears in question refer to the outstanding five months of N35,000 salary wage award owed to federal workers under the government’s payroll.

According to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), the payment will be made in installments of N35,000 per month for five months.

This payment is part of the palliative measures introduced by the Federal Government to cushion the effects of economic reforms.

The government had earlier paid five months’ wage awards to federal employees in installments. However, the delay in payment has sparked concerns among labor unions.

With the new deadline set for July 15, 2025, civil servants can expect to receive their outstanding arrears soon.

The OAGF has assured workers that the payment will be made without further delay, emphasizing the government’s commitment to implementing all policies and agreements regarding staff remuneration and welfare.
