Christopher Imumolen, factional national chairman of the Accord Party, has withdrawn from the 2027 presidential race and declared his support for the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement on Sunday, Imumolen said the decision was made after consultations with the party leadership.

He cited the need to prioritise unity, stability and continued development over personal political ambition as reasons for his withdrawal.

Imumolen said the decision to support Tinubu was based on his assessment of the president’s leadership and reform agenda

“The unity, stability, and continued progress of Nigeria must take precedence over personal political ambition,” Imumolen said.

Imumolen listed 10 reasons for withdrawing from the race, including a shared vision with the president on economic reforms, education, youth empowerment, industrialisation and national development.

He also pointed out Tinubu’s “leadership capacity, political sagacity, commitment to progressive governance, ability to identify and empower talent, and efforts at fostering inclusive leadership”.

According to Imumolen, he was convinced that Tinubu’s economic policies and fiscal reforms would reposition the country for sustainable growth despite prevailing economic challenges.

The presidential candidate explained that continuity in governance and policy consistency were necessary to strengthen institutions, attract investment, create jobs and sustain national development.

“My aspiration has always been to serve Nigeria and not merely to occupy public office,” Imumolen said.

“Whenever the national interest is better served through unity and strategic collaboration, I will always choose Nigeria above personal political ambition.”

He called on members of the Accord Party, his supporters, Nigerians and professionals to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

“Our decision to withdraw our presidential candidature and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a deliberate sacrifice made in the interest of Nigeria,” he added.
