The Joint Congress of the College, comprising the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), the Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education in Nigeria (SSUCOEN), and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), announced the strike following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Kaduna State Government.

A joint statement of the action, obtained by ELANZA NEWS on Wednesday, was signed by COEASU Chairman, Comrade Dr. Marajos Alkali, and Secretary, Comrade Stephen Dutse respectively.

According to the notice, the warning strike will commence on Thursday, June 19, and end on Monday, June 23, 2025.

The unions are demanding the immediate implementation of the 15-year-old CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structures in line with the Schemes and Conditions of Service of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), the regulatory body for Colleges of Education in Nigeria.

They are also calling for a review of the Executive Order on the 65-year retirement age, urging that it be extended to non-academic staff in accordance with NCCE guidelines, without additional conditions.

“Following the expiration of the ultimatum on June 18 without any tangible offer from the government, the joint union finds it necessary to embark on a three-day warning strike,” the statement read.

The unions, however, reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue and urged members to comply strictly with the strike directive.

They also expressed readiness to resolve the issues amicably if the state government demonstrates good faith.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Education Kaduna State, Rose Ndandok Ojo, could not be reach as of the time of filing this report.
