Troops of the Maritime component of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attempted infiltration by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on the Naval Base Lake Chad, located at Fish Dam in Baga, Kukawa local government area of Borno State.

The attack occurred around 1a.m. on Wednesday morning according to a post by counter insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama on his X platform.

He disclosed that the terrorists launched the assault in an attempt to sabotage the Swamp Boggeys recently acquired by the Borno State Government to support waterways clearance operations in the Lake Chad region.

“Sources said that the attack triggered a heavy gunbattle with the naval personnel, with reinforcement arriving from nearby Baga. The exchange of gunfire lasted for over two hours before the terrorists retreat.

“Although the base resisted the incursion, minimal damage was recorded. An ambulance and two other vehicles were destroyed, while some personnel sustained injuries during the engagement,” the source disclosed.

“The Swamp Boggeys, however, remained intact and were not accessed by the attackers,” Makama wrote.

In the aftermath of the attack, the troops recovered a mortar bomb-fabricated Improvised Explosive Device (IED) within the premises of the Naval Base.

According to Makama, the Air Component Command (ACC) of Operation Hadin Kai has commenced exploitation operations along the Lake Chad waterways to track and neutralise other fleeing terrorists.
