NiMet Predicts Three-day Cloudiness, Thunderstorms from Wednesday to Friday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted cloudiness and thunderstorms from Wednesday to Friday across the country.

NiMet’s weather outlook released Abuja envisaged patches of cloud coverage for most areas in the northern region, with the exception of southern Kaduna, to be cloudy with light rains in the Wednesday morning hours.

According to NiMet, thunderstorms with light to moderate rain showers are expected over Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi and Kaduna axis later in the day.

It stated, “At the central region, generally cloudy skies with early morning light rain showers are expected over Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Thunderstorms with light to moderate rain showers are expected over Plateau, the FCT, Niger and Kogi states in the afternoon or evening periods.’’

The agency predicted cloudy conditions for most areas with early morning light to moderate rains over Lagos, Ogun, Akwa Ibom and southern Cross River in the southern region.

It anticipated thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rain showers over Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Central and northern Cross River states in the afternoon or evening periods.

NiMet anticipated patches of cloud coverage for most areas in northern regions on Thursday with the exception of Kebbi, Taraba and Adamawa expected to be cloudy with light rains in the morning hours.

“At the central region, cloudy skies with patches of sunshine are anticipated over the North central region throughout the forecast period. At the southern region, cloudy conditions are anticipated during the morning hours.Thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rain are expected over Imo, Enugu, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Osun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Lagos states later in the day,” it said.

According to NiMet, cloudy skies with patches of sunshine are anticipated over the northern regions throughout the forecast period on Friday.

It predicted cloudy skies with patches of sunshine over the North central region throughout the forecast period.

The agency envisaged cloudy conditions during the morning hours over the southern region.

It predicted thunderstorms with moderate, to heavy rain over Imo, Ebonyi, Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Ondo, Osun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Lagos states later in the day.

“Strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur, the public should take adequate precaution. Ensure that loose objects are fastened to avoid collision. Driving under heavy rain should be avoided. Disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets. Stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees.

“Airline operators are advised to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” it said.

The agency advised the residents to stay informed through weather updates from NiMet and visit its website www.nimet.gov.ng.
