Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, the founder of the New Nigerians People’s Party (NNPP), has firmly denied the existence of any faction within the party.
“There is no faction in the New Nigerians People’s Party (NNPP). What we are experiencing is internal democracy,” Dr. Aniebonam clarified during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja.
He emphasized that the party is navigating internal democratic processes, and expressed disappointment over the party’s deviation from its original mission to provide space and choice for ordinary Nigerians.
Founded in 2001, the NNPP aimed to create a better Nigeria and give a voice to ordinary citizens. However, Dr. Aniebonam lamented that the involvement of Kwankwaso and others has strayed the party from its foundational goals. “I have been criticized for allowing Kwankwaso into the party,” he noted.
Addressing concerns about the party’s certificate, Dr. Aniebonam confirmed his possession of it and criticized Kwankwaso for changing the party’s logo, calling it a self-destructive move. He also criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for accepting the logo change without verifying the original certificate.
Dr. Aniebonam urged INEC to be meticulous, stressing that Nigeria’s democracy greatly depends on the commission’s careful actions. He also emphasized the need to create opportunities for the younger generation, highlighting the failures of the older generation in serving the interests of Nigerians.
