The Comptroller General, Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has emphasised the importance of capacity building for efficient e-border governance across the country.

The NIS CG congratulated the 714 graduands for successfully undergoing training aimed at enhancing their capacity building in border governance, migration policies, intelligence gathering, and teamwork.

She reassured that the NIS would prioritised capacity building for all personnel, in partnership with stakeholders, through the Modernisation of Nigeria Immigration Service (MoNIS) project and other platforms.

“Capacity building is critical for efficient e-border governance, and we will continue to make it a priority for all cadres of NIS personnel.

“We will also continue to improve the welfare of officers and men through timely promotions, accessible housing, and health schemes.

“ We shall establish a Microfinance Bank in collaboration with Nigeria Immigration Cooperative Society (NIMCOS) to help with the welfare of officers and men of the service ,” she said.

Nandap charged the graduands to shun politics, be security conscious, dedicated, and passionate about their duties.

She  announced the completion of the Command and Control/Data Centres at the Service Headquarters, Abuja adding that it would be inaugurated soon.

She also directed Heads of Formations to support the automation of Passport application processes and intensify efforts to combat irregular migration.

“We are committed to the full implementation of e-border projects, including the e-Gates project and Advanced Passenger Information (API)/Passenger Name Record (PNR).

“This is to facilitate real-time surveillance and monitoring of expansive borders,” she said.

The NIS boss appreciated the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir-Yusuf, and implored them to sustain their support for the Service.

In his remarks, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, recognised NIS officers as “frontline officers who protected the borders, uphold the laws, and promote the country’s values.

Tunji-Ojo charged the graduands to be professional and disciplined, and implored all to support the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event featured the inauguration and presentation of awards to deserving graduands, and was attended by the Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir-Yusuf, and other dignitaries.(NAN)
