In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court has dismissed Aishatu Ahmed’s, also known as Binani, appeal against Ahmadu Fintiri’s victory in the Adamawa governorship election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate’s plea to overturn Fintiri’s win underlines the intensity of political rivalries in Adamawa State.

In a judicial assertion of electoral norms, the Supreme Court emphasised the role of returning officers in announcing election results, debunking Binani’s contention regarding the authority of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Yunusa.

Binani’s appeal, premised on INEC’s alleged non-compliance with electoral statutes, faced formidable scrutiny by the appellate court.

Despite claims of electoral malpractice across thousands of polling stations, the court found Binani’s evidence unsubstantiated and lacking in credibility.

The appellate court’s affirmation of Fintiri’s victory underscores the resilience of democratic processes in Nigeria.

Upholding the lower tribunal’s decision, the court’s verdict serves as a testament to electoral transparency and accountability.

In a legal denouement, the Supreme Court’s dismissal of Binani’s appeal reaffirms Fintiri’s electoral triumph and consolidates the legitimacy of democratic outcomes.
