This initiative, part of the United States’ extensive network spanning over 600 cultural and information centers in 140 countries, underscores its commitment to fostering education, economic opportunities, and societal inclusion.

In the heart of Lagos, the American Corner Lekki stands as a beacon of knowledge, offering local communities seamless access to a spectrum of resources.

From U.S. culture insights to English-language learning opportunities, internet services, and guidance for U.S. study pursuits, the corner serves as a multifaceted hub for growth and development.

As American Corners marked its 20th anniversary this year, the initiative continues to evolve as a crucial component of the United States’ people-to-people engagement strategy.

Supported by local partners, American Corners contribute to expanding access to education, economic opportunities, and equity globally.

Africa plays a pivotal role in the Department’s American Spaces network, boasting 172 centers across 52 countries.

In 2023, these spaces hosted an impressive array of in-person and virtual programs, engaging over 1.6 million participants throughout the continent.

Within Nigeria, the American Spaces network has left an indelible mark with two American Centers in Abuja and Lagos, complemented by 10 American Corners strategically placed in universities, libraries, and community centers across the country.

In the preceding year, Nigeria’s American Spaces and Affiliates accomplished remarkable milestones, touching the lives of nearly 100,000 participants in 21 cities.
