In a dramatic turn of events, the embattled Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has extended a humble plea for forgiveness to his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

This unexpected reconciliation effort has captured the attention of the state and beyond, signifying a potential shift in the political landscape.

Philip Shaibu chose the platform of an interview with journalists at his Benin City residence to express his earnest desire for reconciliation.

He openly admitted his wrongdoings and asked Governor Obaseki to forgive and forget, signaling a willingness to mend the fractured relationship.

The rift between Shaibu and Obaseki had escalated to the point where the Deputy Governor’s office was relocated from the Government House to a building along Dennis Osadebe Avenue. This move was seen as a form of public humiliation.

Governor Obaseki did not stop at office relocation; he went further to direct the reallocation of Shaibu’s office.

The responsibility for this reallocation was placed on the shoulders of the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Osarodion Ogie.

Surprisingly, the Governor instructed that Shaibu’s former office be repurposed as the secretariat for the state government’s annual summit, Alaghodaro.

This decision underlined the magnitude of the falling out between the two political heavyweights.

The public apology and plea for forgiveness from Philip Shaibu offer a glimmer of hope for reconciliation within the Edo State political sphere.

It remains to be seen how Governor Obaseki will respond to this unexpected olive branch.

As the state watches with bated breath, the outcome of this reconciliation effort could have far-reaching consequences on the future of Edo politics.
