SNigeria’s women’s beach volleyball team have etched their name in history, becoming the first Nigerian side to qualify for the Olympic Games after a dominant 2-0 victory over Morocco in the CAVB Women’s Beach Volleyball final.

The historic triumph unfolded in Alexandria, Egypt, on Saturday, where the Nigerian duo overpowered their Moroccan opponents with commanding set scores of 21-17 and 21-10. The emphatic win not only secured gold but also guaranteed Nigeria a coveted spot at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Earlier that day, the team had dispatched Mozambique in the semi-final, cruising through both sets 21-17 and 21-17 to set up the title decider.

‘A Victory for the Entire Nation’

Reacting to the milestone achievement, Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) President Musa Nimrod dedicated the success to the country, reflecting on years of near-misses.

“I wish to congratulate Nigerians and thank God. This is the fourth time we have reached the finals; we finished as runners-up on three previous occasions,” said Nimrod.

“God has done it for us on our fourth attempt and granted us victory. This is not merely the Federation’s success—it belongs to the entire nation.”

The qualification ends Nigeria’s long wait for Olympic beach volleyball representation and signals a new era for the sport in the country. The team will now turn their attention to preparing for the world stage in Los Angeles, where they will aim to make further history.
