The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) has welcomed the appointment of Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki as the new Chief Imam of Ilorin, describing the selection as timely and well-deserved.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the group—comprising Muslim journalists, mass communicators, and intellectuals—commended the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, for making what it called “the right choice at the right time.”

The MMWG described Sheikh Dasuki as a highly educated Islamic scholar and distinguished propagator of the faith, who would bring considerable knowledge and experience to his new role as spiritual leader of the Ilorin Emirate.

As the foremost Islamic scholar in Kwara State, the group charged the new Chief Imam to prioritise the unity of the Muslim Ummah and foster brotherhood among scholars and Muslims across the state and Nigeria at large. Such unity, the statement noted, would usher in “a new dawn of Islamic knowledge, awareness, progress and development.”

The group also called on Sheikh Dasuki to dedicate time to special spiritual supplications for the Ilorin Emirate, Kwara State, and the nation—specifically focusing on the country’s security challenges and the forthcoming general elections. The MMWG expressed confidence that sustained spiritual devotion would secure peace, stability, and national progress.

The group further appealed to all Muslim scholars in the emirate to rally behind the new Chief Imam to ensure his success, while offering prayers for his long life, sound health, and abundant prosperity as he assumes leadership of the Ilorin Muslim community.
