The University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) has awarded a contract for the supply and installation of a state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla Helium-Free Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine as part of efforts to strengthen its diagnostic and patient care services.

Presenting the award letter to the successful contractor, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Thairu Yunusa, described the project as a major milestone in the hospital’s ongoing drive to expand access to advanced medical technology.

Professor Yunusa noted that the long-awaited MRI machine, upon delivery and installation, will significantly improve the hospital’s capacity to diagnose complex medical conditions with greater precision.

He explained that the helium-free technology offers enhanced operational efficiency while eliminating many of the safety and maintenance challenges associated with conventional MRI systems.

According to him, the acquisition of the equipment aligns with the hospital’s vision of becoming a leading centre for specialised healthcare delivery, medical training, and research.

He added that, as a strategic gateway teaching hospital in the Federal Capital Territory, UATH is committed to providing world-class diagnostic and interventional services comparable to global standards.

“The installation of this MRI machine will greatly enhance our diagnostic capabilities, support timely clinical decision-making, and ultimately improve patient outcomes,” he said.

The contract was awarded following a transparent and competitive bidding process conducted in strict compliance with due process requirements and the provisions of the Public Procurement Act, 2007.

In his response, the representative of the contracting firm expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in the company and assured the hospital management of the timely delivery and installation of the equipment in accordance with the terms and specifications of the contract.
