The Federal Government has filed a 13-count charge of treason before the Federal High Court in Abuja against suspected plotters of a coup aimed at removing President Bola Tinubu from office.
Among those named in the charge are a retired major general, a retired naval captain, a serving police inspector, and three other individuals. The government has not yet released their full identities.
The development marks one of the most serious security-related legal actions taken by the current administration, underscoring the authorities’ determination to suppress any threat to constitutional order.
Details of the alleged plot, including the timing and scope of the purported conspiracy, are expected to emerge during court proceedings. The Federal High Court is yet to fix a date for arraignment.
Efforts to reach defence counsel for comment were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
