The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, has rescued a 15-year-old girl from an alleged attempt to traffic her to Libya.

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the Command’s spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, said the teenager was recovered from a 46-year-old suspect who had allegedly detained her without consent for two weeks in Kwali.

The operation followed a missing person report filed by the victim’s mother at the Kwali command. Preliminary investigations revealed that the girl was allegedly subjected to sexual molestation while in the suspect’s custody.

“Further interrogation uncovered the suspect’s plan to traffic the minor to Libya for child labour before he was intercepted,” Ms Ojobi said.

FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu assured the victim’s family that justice would be served. “We will ensure justice is served and dismantle networks enabling such crimes,” he said. “My covert officers are gathering intelligence to guide our actions. We are not backing down.”

The commandant confirmed that both the suspect and the victim have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Mr Odumosu reiterated the Corps’ commitment, alongside partner agencies, to tackling human trafficking nationwide. “Those who exploit innocent girls for selfish gain will not be spared once caught,” he warned.

The arrest, he said, underscores the NSCDC’s dedication to protecting vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement of children to security agencies, calling for stronger community cooperation to combat human trafficking and other criminal activities.
