The Arewa Movement for Actionable Change has endorsed Chief Charles Obada as its preferred presidential candidate for the forthcoming general elections.
The group’s spokesperson, Comrade Sabitu Magaji, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the decision followed what he described as a rigorous due diligence process.
Magaji said the movement carefully examined Obada’s vision and mission, which he noted presented a bold, pragmatic and people-centred agenda to tackle Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
He said the candidate’s commitment to economic revitalisation, improved security, youth empowerment, infrastructure development and national cohesion reflected the leadership qualities required to reposition the country.
The group, however, rejected the All Progressives Congress’ adoption of a consensus candidate, describing the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as sole flag bearer as undemocratic.
Magaji said the arrangement undermined internal party democracy and shut out other qualified Nigerians capable of offering credible alternatives for the presidency.
According to him, such practices weaken public trust in the electoral process and restrict the electorate’s right to choose from a broad range of competent leaders.
“True democracy thrives on open competition, transparency and equal opportunity for all aspirants, not on imposed consensus,” he stated.
The movement called on Nigerians, particularly stakeholders in the North, to support Obada’s candidature, expressing confidence in his ability to promote unity and deliver development.
It added that it would continue to mobilise support towards achieving an inclusive, equitable and prosperous Nigeria.
