Yakasai announced his defection in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday, citing consultations with family, friends, and political associates.
The former aide said he had formally submitted his resignation letter to the APC and completed his registration with the ADC.
He said, “After advising and contacting family and friends and other political activists, we have decided to join the ADC Party New Journey! Already, I submitted my exit letter from APC and registration in our new party ADC.

Yakasai had previously left the APC in 2022 to join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), where he contested as its gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 election.
He, however, later returned to the ruling party before his latest defection. His move comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ADC has recently recorded a wave of high-profile defections, including the entry of nine senators from various political parties in mid-March 2026.
