Vice‑President Kashim Shettima says Governor Agbu Kefas’ move to the APC will boost Taraba’s access to federal infrastructure, security collaboration and economic programmes, accelerating development across the state.

Vice‑President Kashim Shettima has said Governor Dr Agbu Kefas’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) positions Taraba State to receive stronger federal support and accelerated development.

Speaking at the governor’s formal reception into the APC in Jalingo, Shettima said alignment with the ruling party would improve Taraba’s access to federal infrastructure projects, security co‑operation, economic interventions and national development programmes. He pledged that the APC‑led federal government would work closely with the state to unlock its vast agricultural and economic potential.

The Vice‑President added that the move would strengthen co‑operation between federal and state authorities, particularly in tackling security challenges and promoting inclusive growth across Taraba’s diverse communities.

Governor Agbu Kefas said his decision to join the APC was motivated by service to the people rather than political survival. “I am not in the APC for survival; I am here for service. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu understands leadership. We are aligning not to chase ambition, but to develop Nigeria,” he said.

Kefas told the state’s youth that the defection was a long‑term investment in their future. “To our youths, this movement is for your future,” he added.

APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwada described the governor’s defection as a major boost for the party and assured him of full support as he consolidates governance in the state. He urged party members to unite and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Taraba.

The event was attended by leading party figures and senior government officials — including governors, deputy governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers and other dignitaries — underscoring the national significance of the defection.
