Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed his support for the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, affirming that he will retain his ministerial role if the coalition succeeds in displacing President Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.
“We will certainly keep Bosun Tijani because he is delivering commendable results,” El-Rufai stated.
He made these remarks on Wednesday at the second edition of the Arewa Tech Fest, a three-day event he organised in Katsina, aimed at promoting technological innovation across northern Nigeria. The festival gathered startups, investors, tech experts, and policy makers.
Minister Tijani also delivered the keynote address during the event.
El-Rufai arrived late, apologising to attendees, and explained that his tardiness was due to a significant “coalition meeting” held the previous evening, focused on efforts to unseat President Tinubu.
“They (the organising team) had to proceed without me because there was a crucial meeting of the coalition at 8pm on Tuesday, aimed at ensuring President Tinubu returns to Lagos,” El-Rufai explained.
He continued, “I had to attend that meeting, and as the Katsina airport does not operate after 8pm, I was unable to arrive until this morning.”
El-Rufai is a prominent figure among opposition leaders actively working to forge a broad coalition of political parties to challenge President Tinubu’s leadership in 2027. His political alignment has shifted since March, when he reportedly left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
