Concerned citizens of Zamfara North Senatorial District commended former Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle on Saturday, praising his achievements during his 2019-2023 tenure.

Matawalle, now the Minister of State for Defense, was recognized for his administration’s focus on infrastructure, security, and public services, which residents say significantly advanced Zamfara’s development.

At a press briefing in Kaura Namoda, community representative Kasimu Lauwali expressed appreciation for Matawalle’s transformative projects.

“In all honesty, we miss former Governor Matawalle for his remarkable contributions, especially within just a year of taking office,” Lauwali said.

He said among Matawalle’s standout accomplishments was his commitment to infrastructure. His administration rehabilitated the crucial Kauran Namoda-Talatar Mafara-Tudun-Wada Gusau road and invested over 203 million Naira to enhance water systems across Zamfara.

“Additionally, more than 510 million Naira was spent on water treatment chemicals, and extensive renovations were completed on the Zamfara State House of Assembly, costing over 842 million Naira.

“In healthcare, Matawalle prioritized the supply of essential hospital equipment, investing around 389 million Naira. His administration also improved state facilities, including renovating the Gusau Government House and constructing a governor’s lodge in Kaduna at 784 million Naira, which aimed to reduce official travel expenses.

“Local media received substantial support under Matawalle, with over 170 million Naira allocated for Gold City FM and 253 million Naira invested in digital equipment for the state’s Legacy Newspaper.

“Infrastructure projects expanded road access, including the Kwaiwa Lamba-Gidan Gogo route, costing 593 million Naira.

“Matawalle’s supporters also highlighted his administration’s success in enhancing security, noting a nine-month period of relative calm without loss of life across Zamfara.

Talata Mafara Resident Praises Tinubu, Matawalle For Eliminating Bandit Leaders Jijji, Kachallah Sagili

Residents of Talata Mafara Local Government Area in Zamfara State have expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, Minister of State for Defence Dr Bello Matawalle, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa for their roles in the elimination of two notorious bandit leaders

The operation, which targeted Jajji Ɗan Auta and Kachallah Sagili, has been hailed as a significant step towards restoring peace in the troubled region.

Yakubu Ibrahim Mafara, speaking on behalf of the Talata Mafara community, issued a statement on Friday commending the concerted efforts of the Nigerian government and security forces.

“We are very grateful to Matawalle, Tinubu, NSA, and others,” he said, reflecting the community’s relief and optimism following the operation.

The statement underscored the profound impact of the operation on the local population, which has long endured the terror inflicted by bandit groups in Zamfara State.

The operation took place on Thursday in Maikwanugga, a community within Talata Mafara Local Government Area, where security forces, alongside local vigilante groups, conducted targeted patrols along the Mafara axis.

According to the statement, reports indicate that Jijji Ɗan Auta and Kachallah Sagili, both feared bandit leaders responsible for numerous attacks, kidnappings, and extortion in the region, were neutralised during the operation.

” Their deaths have been described as a turning point for the community, which has suffered years of violence and insecurity.

“The killing of Jijji Ɗan Auta has brought relief and fresh air into our community,” Yakubu said, echoing the sentiments of residents who have lived under the shadow of banditry for years.

The operation is seen as a direct response to the escalating violence in Zamfara, where armed groups have terrorised rural communities, disrupted livelihoods, and displaced thousands.

The community’s gratitude reflects growing confidence in the government’s commitment to tackling insecurity in Nigeria’s northwest.

Meanwhile, the operation was a collaborative effort involving the Nigerian military and local vigilantes, who have increasingly played a critical role in intelligence-gathering and community defence.

The patrols in the Mafara axis were part of a broader strategy to dismantle bandit strongholds and restore normalcy to Zamfara, a state that has become a hotspot for banditry and kidnapping in recent years.

“The elimination of Jijji Ɗan Auta and Kachallah Sagili is expected to weaken the operational capacity of bandit groups in the region.”

Oyo State Adviser Urges Stricter Fire Safety Measures After Factory Blaze

A massive fire razed a warehouse at Global Crystal Foam Nigeria Limited in Oko-Oba, Oyo State, on Thursday night, destroying property worth millions of naira, officials confirmed.

The blaze, which broke out along Akinmorin Road, prompted a rapid response from state and federal fire services, who managed to contain the inferno within 15 minutes.

Hon. Maroof Akinwande, Senior Adviser on Fire Service Reform to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, visited the scene and urged the company’s management to prioritise fire safety measures to prevent future incidents.

“The governor places immense value on the safety of lives and property,” Akinwande said, calling on the public to cooperate with firefighters during emergencies.

The Oyo State Fire Service Agency, led by General Manager Akinyemi Akinyinka, was alerted to the fire at 8:50 pm by a retired fire officer, Mr. M.O. Adewuyi.

“Upon arrival, we found the warehouse engulfed in flames,” Akinyinka said.

“Our team, supported by the Federal Fire Service, Oyo Command, applied firefighting chemicals to restrict the fire from spreading to other sections of the company.”

Akinyinka noted that the fire, caused by overheating foam blocks igniting nearby combustibles, had raged for an hour before the agency was notified by a passerby who spotted smoke.

Despite the delay, the coordinated response prevented the blaze from consuming the entire facility, saving property worth millions.

Security was provided by a team from the Oyo East Division of the Amotekun Corps, led by CFS Adeduntan, who ensured no looting occurred during the operation.
