The police command in Ekiti has restated that the ban on fireworks remains in effect as the yuletide approaches.

This was made known in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, on Friday in Ado-Ekiti.

The command warned that the use, sale and public display of fireworks would attract arrest and prosecution.

The command expressed appreciation to the people of Ekiti for their support and cooperation, noting that such collaboration has played a significant role in curbing crime and sustaining the peace in the state.

According to the police, the ban is aimed at preventing criminals from exploiting the festive period to carry out unlawful activities under the guise of using fireworks.

The command warned that the sound of firecrackers could easily be mistaken for gunshots, creating panic, confusion and avoidable security concerns.

The police stressed further that fireworks pose various health and safety risks to unsuspecting citizens and must be discouraged.

The command reaffirmed its readiness to fully enforce the ban, urging parents, guardians, community heads and religious leaders to caution their children and followers against flouting the directive.

It called on residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and to promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or via the emergency line: 08062335577.
