A prominent civil rights coalition, the Yoruba Peoples’ Group (YPG), has commended the Minister of State for Defence, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, for his pivotal role in the nation’s ongoing security efforts.
The convener of the group, Folarin Suraj, made this statement while addressing the press in Lagos State on Friday.
The group highlighted the Minister’s exemplary leadership in the fight against terrorism and banditry, emphasizing that his contributions extend beyond the battlefield.
The YPG praised Matawalle’s strategic approach to national security, noting that his dedication to protecting innocent lives and restoring peace to troubled regions has been a beacon of hope for many Nigerians.
“His tireless commitment has significantly strengthened the military’s capabilities and restored hope to communities terrorized by banditry and violence,” the group stated.
One of the most notable achievements under Mattawalle’s leadership was the recent elimination of Mai Hijabi, a notorious terrorist leader who had long plagued Taraba State.
His defeat, the coalition said, marked a turning point in the fight against terrorism and stands as a testament to the Minister’s well-coordinated and sustained efforts.
The coalition also noted the success of ongoing military operations, including the arrests of extremists and informants in critical areas such as Lokoja, Okene, and parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
“These efforts,” it said, “are systematically dismantling the networks that support terrorist and bandit activities.”
Additionally, the recent launch of Operation Fansen Yamma has already yielded significant results, with some terrorists signaling their intent to surrender.
The YPG attributed this development to the continuous pressure and superior coordination of security forces under Mattawalle’s direction.
The coalition reaffirmed its support for the Minister, expressing confidence that his leadership would ultimately bring lasting peace and security to the nation.
