Wike To Ayu: You Are Gone

Published

on

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has advised the embattled national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu to come to terms with the reality his calamitous reign has come to an end.

The governor said Ayu’s claim that only the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party can suspend him was a pointer that is he suffering from delusions of grandeur.

Wike spoke at Bellmouth Junction, Degema-Krakrama bridge, venue of the inauguration of the phase one of the Trans-Kalabari Road.

He declared that the embattled PDP National Chairman cannot reap from a party, by presiding over its affairs, where he has not sown, securing any electoral victory for it.

The governor said: “Ayu said nobody can suspend him but today, he has packed out from the national office. We have an acting chairman. I told him he will go whether you like it or not, he will go.

Wike explained, preadventure, Ayu is unfamiliar with the party’s constitution, that the court, sometimes in the past, struck out in its judgement section that bestowed powers on NEC only, to suspend national officers.

He said: “Those lawyers telling you that the ward has no power to suspend you, that it’s only National Executive Council (NEC),then you don’t understand what is happening. When you came, it was the ward that suspended ( Uche) Secondus, and you went and took office, is it not?”

“So, is it now that you know that it is only NEC that can suspend you? Let me tell you, since they’ve not told you, the court has struck off that section of our constitution that says it’s only NEC can suspend (chairman). PDP did not even appeal the judgement.

“So, forget it, you are gone. You are wasting your time. We are ready for the battle. I am not from Benue , but I have interest and that interest is that Ayu must go.”

The governor stated that Ayu’s suspension by his ward executive shows that he is not a formidable force and respected political leader who commands loyal followers.

Wike said: “Look at it, a national chairman, your own ward will be suspending you. Does it not tell you that you are not on ground? Your own ward will be suspending you and you go to television to say only NEC can suspend you. Stay, wait for NEC, but then know that you’re gone.”

He noted that sadly too the embattled PDP National Chairman could not secure winning votes for his preferred candidate in the February 25th presidential election.

The governor stated that the development was in addition to electoral failure that greeted Ayu because he lost his unit, ward, local government and the state to the opposition party.

Wike said: “Ayu, the man you are supported for president you didn’t give him the vote, he lost. We supported a southern president and we won in our States for equity, justice and fairness.

“A man who lost his unit, a man who lost his ward, a man who lost his local government, a man who lost his State and he is coming to preside over us who won our units, won our wards, won our local governments , won our state, something must be wrong.

“You cannot reap where you never sowed. If all of us have lost our States, what will you be chairing.

“You want to use Rivers State to be chairman, we are not party to that. Go and bring your own local government. Here (in Rivers), we won 32 over 32 seats for House of Assembly.

“Ayu, how many did you win? Here, we won the 3 seats for senate too, Ayu, how many did you win? We won 11 out of the 13 seats for House of representatives, Ayu, how many did you win?”

Commenting on the Trans-Kalabari Road project, the governor dismissed sceptics who had assumed he won’t complete the project.

He stated that despite the kidnap of Lubrik Construction Company staff for five months in a bid to disrupt the project, he pressed on and ensured its completion in his tenure.

Wike commended Kalabari people for supporting the PDP and delivering winning votes in the three local government areas for Sir Siminalayi Fubara to emerge the governor-elect.

Performing the Inauguration of the project, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, noted that governor Wike has done so well for Rivers people because of the spread of his development projects in virtually every community.

Makinde said he is following in the footstep of governor Wike to sustain the pace of delivery of democratic dividends to people of Oyo State who have graciously re-elected him for a second tenure.

Defection is a new dawn in Delta, says Nwoko

Sen. Ned Nwoko (APC -Delta) has described the the defection of Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a new dawn in the political history of the state.

Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District and Chairman, Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Crude Oil theft, gave the charge on Thursday in Abuja, in his reaction to the defection of the Delta Governor.

He noted that it was a new dawn also for the realisation of the much desired Anioma state.

According to him, with the Delta governor’s defection to the APC, a significant chapter in our nation’s political history is being rewritten.

“This moment is not just about shifting allegiances, it is about the bold possibilities now within reach.

“For the first time in decades, we have a real chance to restructure Nigeria’s federating units through constitutionally backed reforms that serve justice, equity, and true federalism.

“It now behoves on you to rise to this historic moment. The past must not be carried into the future.

“Old habits, old politics, and the old deals that led to the gradual decline of the PDP in Delta must be left behind.”

He said that Oborevwori, as governor leading the charge among five PDP governors now aligning with the APC, he has stepped into a party re-energised and focused.

According to him, this a party that has begun laying the groundwork for bold constitutional amendments, chief among which is the creation of two new viable states; Anioma and New Delta.

“Let me remind you, this agenda was declared a done deal by the party leadership long before your defection, a testament to the APC’s commitment to correcting historical imbalances and ending regional marginalisation.

“Your defection must not be symbolic, it must be transformative.

”This is your opportunity to embrace a new sense of purpose and demonstrate renewed dedication to progressive governance, fairness, and inclusive development. It is time to right the wrongs of the past.”

The lawmaker added that the creation of Anioma State would finally give voice, identity, and institutional power to the aspirations of Delta North.

He said that the proposed New Delta will address the communities, bring government closer to the people, and unlock new paths for economic growth.

“For the first time, the APC is armed with the numbers to amend the constitution. This time, we can fulfill these promises without demanding painful tradeoffs from the South.

“We are not lobbying from a place of weakness, we are standing firmly in a position of strength.

“These changes are more than political. They are economic necessities. They are about focused governance, better infrastructure, increased federal allocation, and grassroots democracy.

”Two new states will mean two new engines of development,” he said.

Nwoko noted that the realignment must mean responsibility.

“This is the golden hour for the South, and especially for Delta. Your move to the APC must be anchored in vision. Embrace the party’s progressive agenda.

”Lead the charge for constitutional reform. Leave behind the politics of survival and step into the politics of legacy,” he added.

Nwoko said that the governors alignment with the President and the Renewed Hope Agenda would ensure that a New Delta and Anioma is not left behind.

He added that the state would also benefits from the vast opportunities available at the centre.(NAN)

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has lauded the immediate past governor of Delta, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, for expressing his support for President Bola Tinubu.

Wike gave the commendation in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Mr Lere Olayinka in Abuja on Wednesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Okowa, the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) Vice Presidential candidate in the 2023 election on Wednesday, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Okowa decamped alongside Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta and other PDP stalwarts in the state, collapsing the entire PDP structures in the state to the APC.

Wike described the development as another endorsement of the president’s good governance and commitment to the development of the country.

He called on other Nigerians, who were still sitting on the fence to throw in their support for Tinubu.

According to him, Okowa and Oborevwori open endorsement of Tinubu is a vindication of the position I took in 2023, which was based on the interest of a united Nigeria.

“I commend Okowa and Gov. Oborevwori for this heart-warming decision, which must have been informed by good governance and commitment of President Bola Tinubu to the oneness and development of Nigeria.

“That is what I have always told people to come out and say, not to be running up and down when they have problems.

“They have come out at the right time to show support for Mr President so that the people of Niger Delta can benefit more from the government, and I commend them for it.
