A coalition of youth groups in the Niger Delta region, has said stakeholders in the region, including chiefs, youths and members of opposition political parties, are now identifying with President Ahmed Bola Ahmed and the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to the programmes and policies of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku.
The coalition, which comprises of Niger Delta Youth Coalition for Peace and Progress (NDYPP), the Association for Nonviolence in the Niger Delta (ANND), the Coalition of Ijaw Youths (CIY), the PDP Youth Reunion Group (PYRG) and the Niger Delta Community Women Empowerment Association (NDCWEA), disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday.
The statement, which was signed by NDYPP President, Pastor Teido Jude and four others, praised Tinubu for appointing Ogbuku to oversee the affairs of the NDDC, pointing out that for the first time, the interventionist agency, during the Yuletide, reached out to different groups and stakeholders without discrimination.
It read: “Youth groups, women groups and critical stakeholders across the length and breadth of the region are still in shock over the surprise giftings from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), because it has been long since they had this kind of Christmas benefits from the commission.
“Something like this was last seen, probably in the early days of the commission when Alaibe was in charge, and people are now surprised that NDDC can remember the people of the region and share quality food items and cash gifts to make the yuletide merrier for them.
“Ogbuku’s achievements cut across different sectors, and the long neglected people of the Niger Delta are beginning to feel the impact of good leadership with the arrival of the current Managing Director.”
