In a significant ceremony, Joseph Edegbo JP, a seasoned journalist and former FRCN Controller News, now at the helm of Africa Prime News, joined the ranks of 28 individuals elected as Elders of the Christian Evangelical Fellowship of Nigeria (CEFN).

This diverse group, hailing from Abuja, Jos, Zaria, Kano, Sokoto, Lokoja, and Nyanya Zones, received ordination at a weekend event.

At this ordination, Reverend Dr. David Usman, the General Overseer (G.O) of CEFN Inc, served as the Chief Officiating Minister.

Emphasizing humility, oversight, and discipline, he entrusted the Elders with vital responsibilities.

Guardians of the Flock: Elders are tasked with looking after the congregation’s needs and overseeing its activities.

Spiritual Leadership: Directing public worship, administering ordinances, and promoting the community’s welfare fall under their purview.

Moral Integrity: Elders must embody qualities such as self-control, uprightness, and discipline, while avoiding vices like arrogance, quick temper, drunkenness, violence, or greed.

The Code of Conduct for Elders
Reverend Usman outlined a stringent code of conduct for Elders, emphasizing the importance of being above reproach.

He warned that the honor of eldership could be withdrawn if these standards are not upheld.

The G.O underscored the crucial collaboration between Elders and pastors for the church’s well-being.

Elders, responsible for day-to-day administration, play a supportive role to ensure the pastor’s success.

As the congregation pledged to honour and obey the Elders, the Elders reciprocated by vowing to seek divine guidance and faithfully fulfill their duties.

Wives, integral to the support structure, were also called upon to assist their spouses in their roles.

The ordination ceremony was not only a solemn affair but a celebration, attended by family members, friends, and well-wishers.

The community came together to recognize and support this dedicated group taking on the responsibilities of eldership.
