The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that security personnel and local vigilantes successfully thwarted an attempt to vandalize towers T297, T298, and T299 along the Mando–Jos 330kV transmission line.

In a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja, Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, revealed that the suspects and their alleged buyers were apprehended on October 5 during the attempted operation.

Mbah noted that while the vandals had removed some components from the towers, compromising their structural integrity, the transmission line remained intact and did not collapse.

To avert a system failure, TCN engineers have initiated emergency reinforcement measures on the affected towers to restore their structural stability and ensure the continuous transmission of bulk power through the corridor.

“These actions are aimed at reinstating full stability and guaranteeing uninterrupted power delivery along the Mando–Jos transmission route,” Ms. Mbah stated.

She praised the prompt response of security operatives and the local community, which directly contributed to the arrests of the vandals and their suspected buyers.

The detained individuals are currently in police custody in Saminaka, Kaduna State, where investigations are underway to assess the extent of the sabotage and recover any stolen materials.

TCN has urged communities across the nation to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities near transmission infrastructure to local security agencies or the nearest TCN office to help prevent future incidents.

Ms. Mbah reaffirmed TCN’s dedication to collaborating with security forces to protect national transmission assets and ensure a stable, efficient, and reliable electricity supply across Nigeria’s power network.
