United International Peace and Governance Council, UNIPGC Canada, is set to hold its second edition of the Global Peace Leadership Summit and Awards, scheduled for October 25, 2024, at the Brampton Conservatory Hall.
This significant event is organized by UNIPGC Canada in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Peace & Governance (CIPG), USA, and the American University of Peace and Governance (AUPG), USA.
According to a statement from H.E. Amb. Jonathan Ojadah, UNIPGC Global President and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, the summit will be preceded by a two-day Executive Masterclass on October 23 and 24.
This masterclass is a collaborative effort between Lifesquare Leadership Initiative and AUPG, aimed at providing in-depth leadership training and insights.
“Building upon the success of its inaugural edition in London in 2023, the 2024 summit in Canada aims to make an even greater impact,” the statement read.
Centered around the theme Inclusive Governance for Sustainable Peace, Democracy, and Development, the event will feature comprehensive discussions and interactive sessions addressing critical issues related to global peace, democratic governance, and sustainable development.
Esteemed leaders and experts from various sectors are expected to share their knowledge and experiences during the summit.
A highlight of the event will be the recognition of global leaders who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to peace and governance.
Past honorees include prominent figures such as Lord Shaun Bailey, member of the British Parliament; Prof. David Francis, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sierra Leone; and Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, Zambia’s Minister of Trade and Investment. This year’s summit will feature keynote speeches from distinguished personalities including H.E. Chief (Dr.) Jewel Howard Taylor, former Vice President of Liberia, and H.E. Dhadho Godhana, Executive Governor of Tana River County, Kenya.
Among those who would be receiving the awards for this edition is Favour Ego Robinson, the CEO of Style and Glamour Media in the Category of UNIPGC Peace Leadership Award for Excellence in Journalism. Her nomination follows her years of unalloyed commitment to peace and social justice through journalism.
The statement added that the Global Peace Leadership Summit serves as a vital platform for addressing the underlying causes of conflict and promoting the principles of democracy and inclusive societies. Aligned with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, the summit seeks to chart a course for sustaining global peace and enhancing democratic processes worldwide.
Participants will also have the opportunity to contribute academic papers, which will be compiled into a comprehensive proposal document to be presented to governmental and international leaders following the summit. Completion of the program will earn attendees an Executive Masterclass certificate, recognizing their commitment to peace and governance education.
UNIPGC has a longstanding dedication to advancing global peace and effective governance, with previous summits and award ceremonies held in various African nations, including Nigeria, Zambia, Rwanda, Ghana, and Morocco.
