The decision was approved at the institution’s 117th governing council meeting, held on 10 June 2026.

In an official bulletin, the university reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance towards harassment, confirming that Abubakar’s removal stemmed from “serious gross misconduct involving sexual harassment.” Until his dismissal, he served within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

During the same session, the council ratified the elevation of nine doctorate holders to the rank of full professor, alongside the appointment of four others as Readers and one individual as a Senior Non-Teaching Staff member.
