KADUNA, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has commissioned the upgraded Audiology and Speech Therapy Centre at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure and delivering specialized services to residents of the state.

The facility, equipped with modern diagnostic and rehabilitative tools, was developed through a collaboration between the government and private sector stakeholders, exemplifying the impact of corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Speaking at the event, Kaduna State Commissioner for Health, Hon. Umma K. Ahmed, highlighted the significance of the project, describing it as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to equitable healthcare access.

“Under His Excellency’s leadership, we have prioritized innovative and people-centered healthcare interventions. Today’s commissioning reflects his dedication to inclusive and equitable health services,” Ahmed said.

She emphasized the critical role of the new centre in addressing hearing and speech impairments, which often affect communication, education, and social inclusion.

“This facility will serve as a beacon of hope, especially for children facing hearing and speech-related challenges,” she added.

Ahmed also urged healthcare professionals to approach their roles with passion and dedication while encouraging private sector players to emulate the efforts of partners like Mamia Seed Oil Ltd in supporting health initiatives.

The Chief Medical Director of Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Professor Musa Tabari, described the centre as one of the most advanced therapy facilities in Nigeria. He noted that international experts had trained hospital staff, ensuring the delivery of world-class services.

“The government of Uba Sani has pledged to provide manpower and resources to ensure better healthcare delivery. This partnership demonstrates how the private sector and government can work together for the state’s development,” Tabari said.

Dr. Jamila Lawal, Head of the Ear, Nose, and Throat Department, also spoke on the facility’s impact, noting a significant increase in patient visits from across Nigeria within the first six weeks of operation.

“Our team has worked tirelessly to meet the growing demand, and the results have been phenomenal,” she stated.
