KOGI STATE – As Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo marks his second year at the helm of Kogi State, influential voices are rising to commend a tenure defined by reconciliation and steady progress. Among them, Dr. Kashim Akor, the esteemed former Director General of the National Productivity Centre, has lauded the Governor as a pivotal “bridge builder and unifier” for the state.

In a detailed congratulatory message released to mark the anniversary, Dr. Akor, a holder of the National Productivity Order of Merit and Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management, emphasised the profound value of the “stable and mature leadership” demonstrated over the past 24 months. He attributed a prevailing atmosphere of peace and growing unity across Kogi’s diverse communities directly to Governor Ododo’s deliberate and inclusive governance style.

“The most vital foundation for any meaningful development is peace,” Dr. Akor stated. “What His Excellency, Governor Usman Ododo, has cultivated in two years is not merely an absence of conflict, but a proactive and tangible sense of unity. He has consciously worked to bridge past divisions, bringing people together for the common purpose of building a greater Kogi. This is the hallmark of a true statesman.”

A Mandate for Continued Support

The former NPC chief extended his commendation beyond the political sphere, directly addressing the citizens of Kogi State. He admonished the populace to rally solidly behind the Governor’s vision, arguing that such support is indispensable for the sustained delivery of democratic dividends.

“Governance is a collective endeavour,” Dr. Akor urged. “The people of Kogi have a crucial role to play in consolidating these gains. By offering their unwavering support and constructive engagement, they empower the administration to accelerate its developmental agenda for the benefit of all.”

This call for solidarity underscores a central theme of Ododo’s administration: that sustainable progress is built on a partnership between a purposeful government and an engaged citizenry.

Salaries, Welfare, and a Focus on Legacy

A significant portion of Dr. Akor’s praise was reserved for the Governor’s handling of state machinery and workforce welfare. He specifically highlighted the “prompt and timely payment of workers’ salaries,” a practice that has brought notable relief and stability to civil servants’ lives. This reliability, he noted, is coupled with a marked “improvement in overall workers’ welfare,” contributing to higher morale and productivity within the state’s public sector.

“In the current national economic climate, the consistent fulfilment of salary obligations cannot be overstated,” Dr. Akor remarked. “It reflects fiscal discipline, respect for the workforce, and a fundamental understanding that a motivated civil service is the engine of implementation. Governor Ododo deserves credit for making this a non-negotiable priority.”

Looking ahead, the veteran administrator offered a pointed piece of advice: focus. He encouraged Governor Ododo to remain undistracted by peripheral noise and to instead channel all energies into “consolidating on the gains of the last two years.”

“The second half of a first term is often where legacies are cemented,” Dr. Akor observed. “It is a time for deepening reforms, completing pivotal projects, and ensuring that policies are thoroughly embedded. I urge the Governor to stay the course, maintain his strategic focus, and build irrefutably on this formidable foundation of peace and unity.”

The “Bridge Builder” in Context: Why It Matters

The description of Governor Ododo as a “bridge builder” carries substantial weight in Kogi’s political and social landscape. The state, with its rich ethnic diversity and historically complex political dynamics, has sometimes experienced tensions that hindered cohesive development. A leader actively perceived as a unifier is therefore pivotal in transcending these fault lines.

Analysts suggest that this emphasis on unity has enabled a more focused approach to governance. By fostering a calmer political environment, the administration can dedicate greater attention and resources to core issues of infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment, rather than perpetual crisis management.

The Road Ahead for Kogi State

As Governor Usman Ododo’s administration enters its third year, the commendation from a figure of Dr. Kashim Akor’s stature serves as both an endorsement and a benchmark. It sets public expectation for the continuation of prudent, peaceful, and people-focused governance.

The challenges facing any state in Nigeria remain significant, from economic pressures to infrastructural demands. However, the consensus from observers is that Kogi State, under its current leadership, is navigating these challenges with a rare and commendable stability. The foundation of unity being laid today is poised to become the bedrock upon which the future prosperity of the state is built.

The message from Dr. Akor concludes not just as a celebration of past achievement, but as a clarion call for the future: a future where Kogi’s potential is fully realised through continued unity, purposeful leadership, and the collective resolve of its people.
