United States President, Donald Trump, on Saturday said reports that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in recent air strikes were likely true.

Trump, however, stopped short of giving a categorical confirmation.

“We feel that that is a correct story,” he was quoted as saying by NBC News.

Speaking separately to ABC News, the former US president added, “I don’t want to say anything definitively until I see things but we believe he is. And much of their leaders are gone.”

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said there were “many signs” suggesting that Khamenei had been killed in an attack on his compound.

The development is believed to be part of a joint US-Israeli campaign targeting key Iranian leadership figures.

There was no immediate official confirmation from Iranian authorities as of the time of filing this report.
