Troops of the Nigerian Army successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt by a suspected terrorist group on the Ughelli-Patani Road in Delta State on Sunday.
The Nigerian Army announced via its official X handle that their quick response to a distress call led to the rescue of passengers who had been kidnapped while traveling in a commercial bus.
The army reported that upon receiving the distress call, troops rapidly mobilized and confronted the terrorists, who were armed with assorted weapons. A fierce firefight ensued, forcing the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee.
“The rescued passengers are now in safe custody, receiving necessary care and support,” the army stated. “Meanwhile, the troops are actively pursuing the fleeing terrorists.”
