Troops from the 6 Brigade, Sector 3 of “Operation Whirl Stroke” (OPWS), successfully intercepted a planned banditry attack in Taraba, apprehending two suspects armed with AK-47 rifles.

According to Capt. Olubodunde Oni, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations in Jalingo, this achievement resulted from a meticulously coordinated operation fueled by credible intelligence.

“On December 11, 2024, following actionable intelligence, our troops initiated a series of aggressive patrols, ambushes, and covert operations to thwart the impending attack,” Oni stated.

These efforts led to the arrest of two suspected terrorists, identified as Terry Waapara and Tobaya Tekura, in Adu village.

The suspects were captured while attempting to infiltrate Chachanji market to execute their malicious plans, which were believed to involve kidnapping and other criminal activities.

During the operation, the troops seized two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The suspects are currently in custody, undergoing further investigation to uncover additional details regarding their network and operations.

Brig. Gen. Kingsley Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their vigilance, professionalism, and prompt response that contributed to this success.

“I assure the citizens of Taraba State that the Nigerian Army remains steadfast in its commitment to combat terrorism, banditry, and all forms of criminality.

“I also appreciate the support and cooperation of law-abiding citizens in providing timely and credible information. Together, we will ensure Taraba is a safe haven for everyone,” Uwa affirmed.
